Stella!

Stella McCartney at Work

Stella McCartney, New York Times Magazine, February 2012The NYTimes Magazine profiled fashion designer Stella McCartney this week in the article “What Drives Stella McCartney?” I’ve never really paid much attention to her, but the way the photo essay portrays her as a good ol’ fashion, hard working, no frills yet super stylish lady caught my eye.

She’s got that “I don’t care what you think because I’d be doing this anyway” kind of thing going on, not to mention an effortless class and style that most try to emulate.

Consider me converted to Stellaism.

Project Launch: A Gaggle of Tees

Ashley and Sahar of Designing Hope (and fellow Pratt Incubator members) have launched their latest project: A Gaggle of Tees! From Ashley:

“The shirts are based around the idea that different groups of animals have funny names – a murder of crows, a parliament of owls, a sleuth of bears, a business of ferrets, etc.  And decided we wanted to use Gaggle of Tees to give back, so we found four awesome non-profit companies to go with each of the tees. We’re donating 10% of our proceeds to help them in their missions.”

Well, doesn’t that sound delightful?

Jolie and Elizabeth

… and their Made in Louisiana fashion label is yet another indication that NOLA is a budding hub of creativity. The two young women founders (natives of NOLA and Dallas) were saddened about the lack of opportunity for talented fashion designers in the area and knew there was a lot of talent, cultural aesthetic, and inspiration to capitalize on from the entrepreneurial energy post-Katrina. Not only is the year-and-a-half-old company providing jobs for more than 40 people, “Jolie and Elizabeth” is planting the seeds for the budding fashion industry in the south and providing modern styles for sassy young southern fashionistas.

Just a couple more creative women making it happen in the world. Kudos to Jolie Bensen and Sarah Elizabeth Dewey on their venture. You can find more info on the Jolie and Elizabeth story in this Inc article, visiting their website, or stockists nationwide.
